Semillas de Amor
Semillas de Amor is a children’s home located in Parramos, Guatemala, founded by Director, Nancy Bailey. 45 children currently reside and are cared for at Semillas. 30 of these children are waiting to be united with their adoptive families under the former notary-run adoption process. 15 children, some of whom have families waiting for them, some of whom still await a family, will be processed through the Central Authority.
During the transition from the old notary-run adoption system to the new government regulated system, Semillas has fallen prey to many delays and problems. Legal and political persecution has resulted in threats of government raids and removal of the children. Due to freezes in the processes and court-ordered stays, many adoptions have not been able to finalize, and the children of Semillas lose their childhood day by day away from the loving families who await them. Sustaining 30 children who should currently be living with their adopted families has caused great financial strain and emotional devastation to all of the children and staff at Semillas.
Semillas de Amor has begun the registration process with the Central Authority and aspires to one-day find loving homes for all of its residents. It is our hope that the CNA will soon develop the infrastructure to assist the home in its efforts. Until that time, with the government’s advocacy and cooperation, Semillas de Amor will do everything in its power to continue to nurture and provide for these children.
With income from adoptions halted and no government funding available, Semillas de Amor is reliant upon the generosity and love of those who care about the future of the children.
